while the physics effects are nice, some vehicle physics are a downgrade for MAFIA 1. has that 'unfinished rpg' sociopath feel of GTA4 and Assassin's Creed (where the whole world is talking amongst itself, going on about its life but the only way you may interact with any one of them is by picking a fight or killing them) you can buy something at a store, then rob that store, and get your money back TAKE THAT 99% OF GAMES I PLAYED!!!

after a serious accident, the car engine 'breaks' and you can fix it by popping the hood and mingling inside

the fighting/brawling system is pretty cool realistic bullet damage (3 shots = dead, car slows down bullets but you still get hurt, not liek GTA where car 'dies first') I can see that I'm going to do the same thing as I did with Arkham, and wear it out before I've even bought it. I'm not just happy with it, I'm ecstatic.Īnyhow, I'm going to have to remove this from my hard drive now. Simulation mode is pretty much the best driving I've ever experienced in an open world driving game. I defended that game's engine, but in Mafia 2 there's at least as much stuff happening in the world, and the engine runs way better.ĭriving around is a gas. For me, after this, there'll be no going back to GTA 4. Now that the game is running properly I can honestly say that this engine puts the GTA 4 engine to shame. It isn't.Īnyhow, the game performance is silky smooth now - so I'm wondering about those benchmark numbers. I don't really want to do that though.Īlso, the game seems to think my old 9800gt is still installed. The only way I'd be able to tell if my GTX 275 is performing well in Mafia 2 (as a PhysX card) would be to remove it, and see what happens when it's not there. In Akrham, the benchmark numbers were lying to me. The benchmark numbers didn't change at all when I installed my GTX 275 to act as a dedicated PhysX card (I had previously been using a 9800gt), but I was able to feel the difference when I was playing. The same thing happened in Arkham Asylum with PhysX.

The thing is, though, I have a single GTX 480, coupled with a GTX 275 acting as a dedicated PhysX card, and my numbers are the same as those posted by a couple of people above who only have a single GTX 480. I went from 12 frames per second, with everything maxed out, including full PhysX, to 38 frames per second - quite a boost. Okay, my problem was solved by uninstalling PhysX, and then re-insalling the exact same PhysX driver.
